As we
know that apple falls down to the ground which is because of gravity if you put
an object in the atmosphere it will fall down in fact if you jumped off a cliff
you would fall too
But the
moon in the night sky we see is not getting down to the ground, have you ever thought
why? It is really good that a big ball that weights 10^22 Kgs is not falling
down.
Now the
question is why the earth which attracts everything is not attracting the moon
which is very close to the earth.
We need
to realize that the moon is not only just staying up there but it is orbiting around
the earth. when an object did not stop revolving and continuously moving then it
is orbiting.
If we
throw a ball horizontally it will travel to a particular distance horizontally
and gradually fall down with respect to the initial velocity if we increase the
initial velocity the distance traveled horizontally will increase and the time it travels also increases .now let us imagine we are at a top of a sphere and
do this experiment. As the earth is not flat and it’s a sphere so the ball we
throw will travel and complete one revolution and it comes to the starting
point.if once it comes in the initial point it acquires its initial velocity
and continues in its path of revolution as in the case of moon same happens the moon revolves around the earth and it gains the initial velocity to complete
one more cycle of revolution.
This cycle repeats and that’s why the moon is not falling into the earth
